Details
The French 20 franc gold coin Rooster and Marianne was used as money in daily life. The coins were minted from 1899 to 1914 with a total circulation of several million coins. This is why they are being used for investment purposes even today.
The 20-franc Rooster / Marianne gold coin was produced with a fineness of 900/1000. The copper alloy chosen made the coin more durable and less prone to damages caused by daily use.
The obverse of the coin shows a portrait of Marianne, symbol of freedom and independence during the French Revolution. On this rests a slate which is used for taking down the first democratic constitution of France. Originally, the figure should probably not depict an angel, but a roman Genius – patron of the ideas of the French revolution. The reverse depicts a rooster, the nominal value, and the year of minting. The inscription reads “Liberté Egalité Fraternité”.
