The French 20 franc gold coin Angel, also known as Genius, was used as money in daily life and carried as lucky charm. The coins were minted from 1871 to 1913 with a total circulation of several million coins. This is why they are being used for investment purposes even today.
The 20-franc Genius gold coin was produced with a fineness of 900/1000. The copper alloy chosen made the coin more durable and less prone to damages caused by daily use.
The obverse of the coin shows a winged male figure standing in front of a column. On this rests a slate which is used for taking down the first democratic constitution of France. Originally, the figure should probably not depict an angel, but a roman Genius – patron of the ideas of the French Revolution. The reverse depicts the nominal value and the year of minting enclosed by an oaken wreath. The inscription reads “Liberté Egalité Fraternité”.
