Details

The Libertad gold coin was released in 1981 by the Mexican mint Casa de Moneda de Mexico. In contrast to most other bullion coins, the Libertad does not have a face value. The coin’s value is directly linked to the daily value of the gold used for its production.
Initially, the Gold Libertad was produced with a fineness of 917.0/1000.
In 1991, the fineness was raised to 999.0/1000.
The obverse of the coin features a winged Victoria as a symbol of
Mexicanindependence. 1996 the motive was revised and since then shows the winged Victoria from another angle.
The reverse shows the coat of arms of Mexico. Since 2000, coins weighing 1oz and above feature a new design of the reverse, now showing the national coat of arms surrounded by ten historic versions of the coat of arms.
Sizes of 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz were minted from the beginning; in 1991 sizes of 1/20 oz and 1/10 oz were added to the series.
Silver Libertad coins are being produced since 1982 and meanwhile are available in sizes of up to 1 kg.
