Since 2007, the Australian Perth Mint issues Koala silver coins with annually changing motives. They are legal tender in Australia and 999.0/1000 pure silver is used for their production.
The reverse of each coin depicts different illustrations of Koala bears. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
All coins are manufactured as proof like coins, apart from 5oz coins which are only available as proof coins.
The first coins issued were manufactured as 1 oz coins. In 2008, sizes of 1/2 oz, 10 oz, and 1 kg followed and 2011 1/10 oz and 5 oz coins completed the series.
