Details
The Krugerrand was first introduced in 1967 as a vehicle for private ownership of gold. It was the world’s first ounce-denominated gold coin which was also mass-produced to enable everyone to purchase gold easily at a low premium above the gold price.
51 years after the first gold coins have been issued, South African Mint and Perth Mint joined together to create a stunning regular silver version of the popular Krugerrand. Also a bullion coin suitable for investment, the silver Krugerrand will be an excellent choice for any portfolio.
The name ‘Krugerrand’ is derived from Paul Kruger and the rand, the monetary unit of South Africa. Therefore, the design on the obverse of each of the coins depicts the President of the Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek, Paul Kruger. The reverse design shows the prancing springbok, South Africa’s national animal.
